Study methods have been scrutinized for many decades and many professionals have their theories. However theories won't work if they are not easy to read and follow. Otherwise, it becomes other study manual and not worth the time and effort. In this article, I will preserve the best methods for your pupil to use or the pupil himself or herself to put into practise.
I am going to use an acronym called Study which means that each letter of the Study stands for a word or a phrase to result to make use of the best practises for getting higher marks and manufacture the best use of your time:
S-silence and solitude: This means open the books and notes in a quiet, out of the way spot away from regular family noises and distractions. It does not mean that you have to leave the house but find a place where there is less traffic. If your bedroom is shared, then try the laundry room or furnace room. Don't go to a friend's house because that is one other distraction with which to deal. Make your little haven of study somewhere in the house. Put on soft music if it helps but not loud, ear-curdling rock.
T-take a look: secure all materials that you need to study for that single test or class. Put them in order of point starting with the study guide or describe your instructor may have given you. Open them and read straight through all and make jot notes of every date or fact you have trouble remembering. Use small cue cards or recipe cards to keep these notes. Go straight through all materials each night before the test.
U-understand and usage: underline or highlight whatever recipe or facts you do not understand or have trouble remembering. Put them on the cue cards. Look at the examples and where you had trouble on previous work and tests. Try the work again and it might just come as a surprise that you finally get the concept. Never say that you just can't do it. Life is full of challenges. Study methods are only one of them
D-determination and diligence: Make a program of what you are going to study and when. Make time straight through your school day to sit down and look at your notes. If you are still having trouble, ask a classmate or your instructor for help. Show them how you have tried to understand the ideas but it isn't manufacture sense. They might have a tip such as a mnemonic expedient or a song or a way to tackle that square formula.
Y-you, yourself and yours: You are the key player, the Mvp in this game of studying, and you have to put your best foot forward. Eat properly, get plentifulness of rest and don't do whatever to your body which can interfere with its best performance. If you do your best and use the above strategies then you can't help but result and only do your best. You are doing this for yourself. Not your parents or your instructor or your coach!
Study methods can be a whole textbook of ideas and strategies. No one idea is good than the rest. You and your pupil has to be happy with the study methods you employ.
